A Frenchman used his trolley as weapons after being caught trying to steal camembert in a Waitrose store.

Bernard Conche was already banned from the Waitrose shop in Chelsea, London, but was seen by management allegedly trying to steal boxes of camembert.

When manager Kimberley Taynor approached him, he became aggressive.

She told the court: “At that point he had three blocks of cheese in his trolley and he picked those up and threw them at me.

“They sort of came towards me and I managed to catch them

“Whatever he was saying was a different language, it was very mumbled, it made no sense," the Daily Mail reported.

A security guard intervened, but was reportedly kicked in the stomach by Mr Conche.

Mr Conche allegedly then lifted his trolley and brought it down on Ms Taynor’s right angle, causing her injury.

It took three members of staff to detain Mr Conche in an office until the police arrived, the court was told.

He also accused of kicking an attending police officer in the stomach.

Mr Conche denies two charges of assault by beating and one of assaulting an officer in the course of his duty.

He was also seen by court journalists wearing Wellington boots and a fisherman’s hat near the premises, despite not appearing in the dock.

The trial continues.
