Army bomb disposal experts were today examining a van abandoned outside a police station in Northern Ireland.

The vehicle sparked a security alert when it was left outside Aughnacloy police station on Dungannon Road, Co Tyrone, at 10.10pm last night.

Ammunition technical officers were called to the scene and police and emergency services were clearing the area.

Around 350 local people were evacuated from their homes and were spending the night at a nearby church hall.

Police said roads into and out of Aughnacloy were sealed off and urged the public and motorists to avoid the town.
