Levi Bellfield's partner did not believe he had killed 13-year-old Milly Dowler, the Old Bailey heard yesterday.

Emma Mills, 33, said she did not contact police about Mr Bellfield's "disappearance" on the day the schoolgirl went missing, or his subsequent quip: "What, do you think I've done Milly?"

Ms Mills said: "I didn't think he'd done it, but when he made that comment it made me think 'Why did he make that comment?'. But I didn't think he had done it."

Mr Bellfield, 43, serving life for two other murders of women, denies murdering Milly.

The trial continues.
