A Swindon man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 21-year-old woman last seen alive just after Christmas in 2002.

Becky Godden, who was also known as Becky Godden-Edwards, had got involved in drugs and prostitution before she died.

Her body was found in a Gloucestershire field in 2011.

Superintendent Sean Memory, of Wiltshire Police, said: “We can confirm that a 51-year-old man from Swindon was arrested today on suspicion of the murder of Becky Godden. He has been interviewed and enquiries continue.”

He asked the media and public not to try to name the arrested man.

“It is in the interests of justice for Becky that you do not speculate on the identity of the arrested man as to do so could seriously jeopardise the judicial process,” Mr Memory said.

Ms Godden was last seen alive in Swindon on 27 December 2002. Police have distributed renewed appeal posters in the local area and urged anyone who saw Miss Godden over the Christmas period and into the New Year to get in touch.
