A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sending racist tweets to two League Two footballers.
The man was arrested by police in the Gloucestershire area last night during an investigation into tweets sent to two Northampton Town football players, a Northamptonshire Police spokesman said.
It comes after abusive tweets were sent to striker Adebayo Akinfenwa and defender Clarke Carlisle, who is also chairman of the Professional Footballers Association.
Insp Phil Kings of Northamptonshire Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of committing a racially aggravated offence as part of a joint investigation with Gloucestershire Police.
The man remained in police custody and would be questioned by officers, he added.
