A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of the bodies of a woman and a man, police said today.

The 53-year-old man handed himself in at a Bedfordshire police station at 4am.

As a result of information he provided, police officers forced entry to a house in Wigmore Road in Aylesbury at 4.40am. They discovered the body of a man.

Later the body of a woman was found in a white Ford Transit van in Buxton Road, Luton.

The road was closed off until 7.30am while officers examined the van.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said he could not confirm if the van had been discovered by police officers as a result of information from the man.

He said next of kin of the two dead people had not been informed and their identities would not be confirmed until that was done.

A forensic investigation is now under way at the address in Aylesbury and detectives from the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit will be managing the investigation, which is in its early stages.

Thames Valley Police later confirmed that the van containing the woman's body was parked in the same road as the police station where the suspect was being questioned.
