A 40-year-old man who admitted driving a modified toy car on a road named after a motor racing circuit while over the drink-drive limit is starting a three-year ban, police said today.

Paul Hutton was spotted behind the wheel of the white and pink electronically-powered model Jeep near his home in Jaywick, Essex, on March 28.

He admitted drink-driving when he appeared before magistrates in Colchester, Essex, on Friday, a police spokesman said.

Police said Hutton, who had modified the toy, was given a conditional discharge for getting behind the wheel of the model after drinking too much.

But magistrates banned Hutton from the road after hearing he had a previous conviction for driving a real car when over the limit.

The spokesman said officers breathtested Hutton after spotting the toy being driven along a road called Brooklands shortly before 9pm.
