A 26-year-old man who was arrested after an alleged airport bomb threat was posted on Twitter has been charged with sending a menacing message, police said today.

Paul Chambers, 26, said in January he was due to fly from Robin Hood Airport, in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, more than a week after snow forced the airport to close a runway.

He was arrested on suspicion of communicating a bomb hoax after a Tweet about blowing up the airport was reported to police.

Today, South Yorkshire Police said: "A 26-year-old Doncaster man has been charged with sending by a public communications network a message that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character contrary to Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003."

A force spokesman said Chambers, of Byram Court, Balby, Doncaster, is due before magistrates in the town tomorrow.
