A man was electrocuted during a burglary at an electricity substation, police said today.

The 30-year-old was found dead at the scene in Ipswich, Suffolk, by paramedics.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said they were called at 11.26pm last night to the substation in Ransomes Way.

Officers discovered that the doors at the rear of the building had been forced and some metal cutting tools were found.

A second man waved the ambulance down as it arrived at the scene but disappeared shortly afterwards, added the force spokesman.

He said the death is being treated as unexplained and the scene remains cordoned off this morning.

It is unclear what the dead man was doing at the substation and whether he was a burglar or trying to foil the raid.
