Man held after armed stand-off in Derbyshire

A man has been arrested after an armed stand-off with police.

The 41-year-old gave himself up to officers at around 5.30am today.

Armed officers were deployed to a canalside in Sandiacre, near Long Eaton, Derbyshire, last night as part of the incident involving the man, who was on a boat.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police said the man was arrested by officers this morning.

He is wanted for various offences in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

No shots were fired during the incident off Town Street and no one was injured, the force spokeswoman added.

Derbyshire Police said the stand-off lasted more than 12 hours.

The man was arrested in connection with breach of a violent offender order and on suspicion of burglary and theft. He will be questioned later in the day.

No weapon was found on the boat, which was at the back of the Plough Inn.

The police thanked the management of the Plough for their co-operation during the incident and the public for their understanding if they were inconvenienced.
