A man was being held under police guard in hospital today over the fatal stabbing of a woman at a former pub.

Sharon Green's body was found by a member of her family at her home in Marlesford, Suffolk, on Friday morning, Suffolk Police said.

A post-mortem examination revealed Ms Green, 53, died as a result of stab wounds to the chest.

Shortly after the family member alerted emergency services, police arrested a 59-year-old man on suspicion of murder after he crashed the van he was driving in nearby Wickham Market, a force spokeswoman said.

The man was taken to Ipswich Hospital with suspected spinal injuries and remains there under police guard.
