A 29-year-old man was shot dead yesterday outside a supermarket in north Glasgow. The victim is believed to be Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll, who allegedly had links to organised crime.

Strathclyde Police said the man died at the scene after being shot in the Asda car park in Saughs Road, Robroyston, yesterday lunchtime. They are looking for three men in masks who left in a black or dark-coloured car.

Det Supt Michael Orr said: "This attack was carried out with an utter disregard for public safety. A man has been shot dead in broad daylight and it is imperative that we trace those responsible."

Officers questioned drivers leaving the car park and forensic officers examined a black Audi car in the car park. A white tent was erected around it.

Mr Carroll had survived a drive-by shooting in East Dunbartonshire in November 2006, in which he sustained serious stomach wounds.
