A young man has been stabbed “seven or eight times” after a mass brawl involving bottles and bats broke out in a north London nightclub.

The victim, believed to have connections to London gangs, was repeatedly stabbed during a fight that spilled out from the bar and club, Lower Ground, in West Hampstead.

Witnesses said 20 men and women were fighting with broken bottles, sticks and baseball bats outside the bar, according to the Evening Standard.

One of the group then pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim, who is in his early 20s, according to Camden Police. The victim refused any help, telling officers: “Why the f*** are you here?”

The victim's uncle, head doorman at the venue, told police officers on the scene: “My nephew’s been stabbed.

“He had a fight there. He was battering the other guy then one of his lot pulls out a knife and bam bam stabbed him.”

Mike Hill, superintendent of Camden Police, said in a statement: “The venue are allowing the wrong type of patrons into the venue which has allowed this to take place within their grounds

“Police have no faith in the management of this venue to operate without posing a risk to public safety.”

Officers say the fight started inside the venue, when one man punched another on the dance floor, and spread to the street at about 3.30am. No arrests have been made.

The details emerged through a police report to Camden Council, which also revealed the club’s licence was temporarily suspended.

Police are calling for its hours to be slashed and a raft of new security and anti-crime measures – including the removal of all flat surfaces from the toilets in order to “design out” opportunities for drug use.

There have been four other violent attacks in the club in the past year, the report adds, including two bottle attacks and a sexual assault.

Lower Ground could not be reached for comment.
