Murder hunt police name gun victim
Thursday 01 September 2011
Police have named a man gunned down in the street as they continue the hunt for his killer.
A post-mortem examination confirmed Kevin Gott, 25, died from a single gunshot wound to the head when he was targeted in Brayfield Road, Liverpool, on Tuesday night.
Detectives are examining two cars as part of their investigation into the shooting in the Anfield area and are also looking at a second firearms discharge on the evening.
A silver Ford Focus was seized from Larkhill Lane, close to where several bullets were found on the ground following reports of gunshots.
The vehicle is being forensically examined, along with a blue Ford Mondeo which was found in the early hours of yesterday in nearby Hedges Close.
Mr Gott, from Anfield, was founding lying in the street by officers called to Brayfield Road at 10.10pm. He was taken to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
Five minutes earlier, police had been called about gunshots heard in the Larkhill Lane area. On arrival, officers found evidence of a firearms discharge but no one injured.
Police are treating Mr Gott's death as murder and said it was not a random attack but it is too early to say if the second firearms discharge was linked.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Dave Brunskill said: "We have now had it confirmed that Kevin suffered fatal injuries as a result of a gunshot wound to his head.
"Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time and specially-trained family liaison officers are providing support and updates to them on the investigation.
"We are keeping an open mind as to whether both incidents are connected and we are following several lines of inquiry to try and build up a picture of what happened in the area on Tuesday night when Kevin was killed.
"Although the motive is yet to be established at this stage, I would like to reassure the community that this was not a random attack.
"I would like to appeal to people in the area who may have information that could help us investigate this murder and seek justice for his family to please get in touch. Your information, however insignificant it may seem, could be important to us progressing this investigation."
