A prominent Pakistani politician was killed outside his London home last night.

Dr Imran Farooq – a leading member of one of Pakistan's largest party, the MQM (Muttahida Quami Movement) party – was found seriously injured at 5.30pm after police were called to reports of a serious assault in Edgware, north London. Dr Farooq, aged 50, was suffering from multiple stab wounds and head injuries. Treated by paramedics at the scene, he was pronounced dead just over an hour later. No arrests were made in connection with the incident.

Mr Farooq is reported to have claimed asylum in the UK after several years on the run as one of Pakistan's most-wanted fugitives. He was wanted on charges that included murder but insisted the claims were politically motivated.
