A Libyan man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder PC Yvonne Fletcher has been released on bail.

PC Fletcher died after being shot while policing a demonstration outside the Libyan Embassy in London in 1984.

The man, in his 50s, was arrested by counter-terrorism officers in south-east England, in what police called the first significant arrest since the officer was killed.

He was also held on suspicion of money laundering.

PC Fletcher, who had been an officer for six years, died after being shot while policing rival demonstrations between anti and pro-Gaddafi activists in London.

Ten anti-Gaddafi activists were also shot and injured and police believe two weapons were used in the attack.

After the death of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the subsequent regime change unearthed "new and fresh evidence".

Scotland Yard has released video footage showing 14 pro-Gaddafi supporters they wanted to interview.

A woman in her 40s and a man in her 30s were also arrested as part a money laundering investigation linked to the shooting.
