A police officer will stand trial today charged in connection with the death of a motorcyclist who crashed during a pursuit.

Pc Ian Bruce, 33, of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) faces one allegation of dangerous driving following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Bruce, who was based at GMP's Tactical Vehicle Crimes Unit, was involved in a pursuit of Alan Stuart Long on August 1 2008.

The IPCC said Mr Long was riding a motorbike in Stalybridge, Manchester, and failed to stop for police officers shortly before he was in a crash with a VW Polo.

He died of his injuries the following day.

Bruce will appear for trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
