A police officer made his first appearance in court today accused of causing the death of a mother-of-three by dangerous driving.

Metropolitan Police constable Nigel Brown, 46, was driving an unmarked police car when it was involved in a head-on crash on the A21 Pembury Road, in Tonbridge, Kent.

The driver of the second car, Felicity Austin, 29, of Hadlow, suffered fatal injuries on May 5 last year.

Brown and a female passenger had to be cut free from the police Skoda.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) managed an inquiry by Kent Police officers into the crash.

Brown, an officer from the Met's specialist crime wing, was released on bail after appearing at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court today.

He will appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 29 March.

Nursery worker Miss Austin was engaged to be married to Simon Huggins, 35, and was described as a "loving and beloved mother" to their three sons.
