Police probe newborn baby's death

Police were today investigating after the body of a newborn baby was found at a waste recycling plant.

The discovery was made by a worker at the site in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, at about 7.30am.

Cambridgeshire police said the death was being treated as suspicious.

"We were called at 7.30am after a worker at the recycling centre discovered the body of a newborn baby," said a police spokeswoman.

"The scene has been preserved and we are the treating the death as suspicious.

"The body was found amongst the rubbish."

The spokeswoman said the baby had yet to be identified.

It is not yet known if the body was that of a boy or a girl, she added.
