Prisoner serving 15 years for robbery fails to return to Suffolk prison

A prisoner serving 15 years for robbery and theft has absconded from a Suffolk prison, police said.

Gerry Sergeant, 61, was due back at Hollesley Bay prison on Friday night after attending a work placement but failed to return, Suffolk Constabulary said.

He had been due to come back from the work placement in Bury St Edmunds by motorbike.

The force has urged members of the public not to approach Sergeant.

Hollesley Bay is a Category D prison, where more than a hundred prisoners work in the community as part of their sentence.

Prisoners in Category D prisons are generally thought to be at low risk of trying to escape.

Sergeant is described as five foot 11 inches, thin, with brown eyes, white hair and tattoos on both forearms.

He was riding a red Honda 125 cc motorbike, with the registration AO11 VMZ.
