Teenage boy charged with murdering fellow 15-year-old stabbed to death in Sheffield

Victim is second teenager killed in city over past week

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder after another 15-year-old was stabbed to death in Sheffield.

The victim died of stab wounds to his chest after an incident in the Lowedges area of the city on Thursday evening, South Yorkshire Police have said.

While the teenager has not formally been identified, his family have been informed and are being supported by the police.

The accused boy will appear in court on Monday.

Police were called to the area at 7.50pm on Thursday after the teenage victim was stabbed. He was taken to hospital but died of his wounds just after 8.50pm.

Investigators are continuing to appeal for information in connection to the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to report it via 101 quoting incident number 829 of 24 May.

In a separate incident, 19-year-old Ryan Jowle was stabbed in the chest in Sheffield on Tuesday night. He died from his wounds the next day in Northern General Hospital.

Frank Kiongaze was charged with murder and possession of a bladed article in connection to Jowle's death on Saturday night, police say.

The UK has seen a surge of knife crime this year, with more than 40 people being fatally stabbed in London alone since the start of 2018.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick recently spoke about the issue on LBC Radio, saying: "We are definitely seeing an increase and I think there's lots of reasons for it.

“Of course I would be naive to say that the reduction in police finances over the last few years, not just in London but beyond, hasn't had an impact.

“I'm sure it's had an impact. It's part of the issue, and that's why I'm very grateful for the new money that we've got, which we are getting on and investing on recruiting new people and I think it will help.”
