Soham murderer's throat cut

Ian Huntley, the Soham Murderer, was last night undergoing emergency treatment after having his throat slashed by a fellow prisoner.

Huntley, who is serving two life sentences at Frankland prison, was attacked yesterday afternoon with what was believed to be a filed-down toothbrush. Officials said he had sustained "serious injuries" that were not thought to be life-threatening.

The 36-year-old was jailed for life in December 2003 after being found guilty of murdering Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, both 10, in August 2002. He has little hope of ever being released. Since starting his term at Frankland, reports have surfaced that the killer has been given "special treatment" by guards to prevent a repeat of three suicide attempts that have defined much of his time in prison.

He was transferred from Wakefield prison in West Yorkshire, where in 2005 he was reportedly attacked with boiling water by another prisoner. In 2008, it was claimed the killer was considering converting to Islam after he fell in with a group of Muslim inmates.

In 2007, he was treated in hospital after consuming prescription drugs, and in September 2006 was rushed to hospital after suffering an overdose.
