Some pictures taken at child porn accused's nursery

Some of the indecent images of children which triggered the arrest of a 39-year-old nursery worker were taken inside the day care unit where she was employed, police said today.

Vanessa George, 39, from Plymouth, was charged today with seven offences - two counts of sexual assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault by touching, and three further counts - making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children.

At a press conference this afternoon, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed their investigation was focused on the alleged exchange of material between George and Colin Blanchard, 38, from Littleborough, near Rochdale.

Blanchard was yesterday charged with possession and distribution of indecent images.

Senior officers told the press this afternoon that they were currently looking at a "small number" of images on a camera phone, some of which they believed were taken inside the Little Ted's nursery in Laira, Plymouth.

Detectives leading the investigation said it was a "significant and disturbing situation".

Russ Middleton, head of CID, said: "It's safe to say we believe some of the images were taken in the nursery."

Chief Superintendent Jim Webster, from Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "This investigation is fast-moving and now confirmation has been received of evidence leading to the charges today.

"It a significant and disturbing situation and the position is made even more difficult that identification of the children in the images is very difficult. There are many that contain the images of torsos.

"As we go through the painstaking task of identifying who may be concerned, we are focusing on communication with the families we believe are involved."

Mr Middleton added: "At this time we have been unable to identify any images of individual children and it is right to say some images may never be identified.

"We are treating this investigation very seriously."
