Police were searching a town centre today after a man was found with fatal stab wounds.
The victim, thought to be aged 19, was found outside a pub in Alexander Road, Bedford, last night.
He was taken to Bedford Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police were alerted at 9.14pm yesterday that a 19-year-old man was injured in Alexander Road.
The incident is believed to have happened between the Studio Club bar and the nearby West Indian Club.
The victim raised the alarm after apparently making his way to the Studio Club and was then taken to hospital.
Bedfordshire Police's Major Crime Unit detectives sealed off an area of Alexander Road and forensic officers are carrying out a detailed search which is expected to last for much of the day.
The victim has not yet been identified, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out later today.
A spokeswoman for Bedfordshire Police said: "There is a crime scene cordoned off and a full forensic examination will continue well into today."
Detective Chief Inspector Sean O'Neill, leading the investigation, appealed for anyone who saw anything last night to come forward.
Witnesses are urged to call 01234 841 212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 08000 555 111.
