Detectives are hunting a rapist who attacked a teenager in a park.

The attacker struck on Newsham Park, Liverpool, at about 11pm on Friday.

His 18-year-old victim had been in the park with two friends but was walking home alone when the man pushed her into bushes and raped her.

He was white, approximately 5ft 10ins and wore a dark woollen hat, pulled down over his face, and dark clothing.

Detective Inspector Rob Hill said: "This is a very serious and despicable attack on a defenceless young woman and we will continue our investigation until the man responsible is caught and brought to justice.

"Although these type of incidents are quite rare, someone, somewhere will know who has done this and I would appeal directly to them or to anyone who may have been near or inside Newsham Park between the hours of 11pm - midnight to contact me and your information will be acted on."
