Three men were arrested yesterday by police investigating the killing of a man found shot dead at the wheel of a car in Sheffield.

The 28-year-old victim was discovered in the car, which had crashed into bushes in the Parson Cross area of the city.

South Yorkshire Police said three men, aged 28, 33, and 36, had been arrested in connection with the death. A spokesman said it was thought a handgun had been used in the shooting.

Det Supt Peter McGuinness described the killing as a "planned assassination" – but said the shooting is not believed to be gang-related. Mr McGuinness, who is leading the murder investigation, said the victim, from the Darnall area of Sheffield, had been shot through the driver's window of the car.
