A man driving a tractor led police on a two-hour, 40-mile chase across two counties.

The pursuit, involving a police helicopter, started near Swindon, Wiltshire, on Sunday evening after reports that a Massey Ferguson tractor had been stolen. It was tracked down on the B3107 travelling at 20mph towards Bath, but the driver refused to stop.

A spokesman for Wiltshire police said they followed the vehicle to the border of the county, where they handed over to bemused officers from Avon and Somerset police.

The pursuit came to an end in the centre of Bath after the tractor hit parked cars, including a police car. The driver ran off but was caught by officers on foot. A man from Swindon was being questioned by police yesterday.
