A police force has urged parents to exercise vigilance as officers investigate an allegation that three men attempted to abduct a 10-year-old girl.

West Midlands Police said the incident was believed to have occurred in the Shard End area of Birmingham as the girl was walking to school at about 8.35am on Thursday.

The girl, who is said to have been grabbed by two of three men who were using a white van, was not injured as a result of the incident in Alderpits Road.

Detective Sergeant Ian Wilkins, who is investigating the girl's allegations, said: "I would ask anybody who may have seen these men before, during or after the incident to get in touch with us.

"I would also advise parents in the area to remain vigilant."

Anybody who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Force CID in Birmingham on 0345 113 5000.
