Police investigating the discovery of two bodies in the same block of flats have said there is a "strong possibility" the deaths were linked.

Derbyshire Police released details of the first man to be found dead in an attempt to uncover further information about his movements. The body of 66-year-old John Matthews, a kitchen porter known as Dave, was found in his flat in in Derby last Sunday.

Officers broke into the flat after his employers at Darleys Restaurant in the city contacted them when he failed to show up for work. During inquiries on Friday morning, the body of a second man in his 50s was found in a flat in the same building.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cotterill said: "There is a strong possibility the two deaths are linked."

A 47-year-old man from Derby was arrested on Friday by Cumbria Police in Whitehaven on suspicion of murder. He was transferred to Derbyshire and questioned and remained in custody last night.
