Two men were shot dead and another wounded when a gunman opened fire in a crowded nightclub in south London, in the first of a spate of shootings early yesterday morning.

Police arrested two men in connection with the triple shooting, which occurred at 3.10am in a Croydon nightclub, and another man was arrested yesterday afternoon. The two dead men were in their 30s. A third victim was taken to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.

In Bristol, three people were taken to hospital with serious wounds after two shooting incidents in the city, again in yesterday's early hours. Two women victims in a car were dumped outside a police station after a shooting in the St George's area at about 3.30am. One was shot in the head and is now critically ill in Frenchay Hospital. The second is seriously ill at Bristol Royal Infirmary. Thirty minutes later, in the St Paul's area, a man with gunshot wounds flagged down a car soon after shots were heard. He is also in a critical condition in Frenchay hospital.
