Detectives have arrested a woman on suspicion of murder following the death of a 10-month-old baby boy.

The 31-year-old was arrested on Friday and subsequently released on police bail to a date in mid-October, pending further enquiries.

Staff at a hospital in Barnet, north London, called police after the baby was brought in by ambulance and found to be unresponsive on Friday, 29 August.

He died the following Monday after first being transferred to a central London hospital.

Scotland Yard have said they know the identity of the dead child and have informed next of kin. Detectives are continuing to investigate in a bid to establish how the baby died.

A post-mortem held on Thursday at Great Ormond Street Hospital did not give a formal cause of death, with further tests still required.
