A woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 94-year-old man, police said today.

William Humphrey, known as Bill, suffered multiple stab wounds at his home in Brook Road, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, some time between 3.30pm and midnight on Tuesday, police said.

Property, including a 32in television, is also believed to have gone missing from the address.

Yesterday, Hertfordshire Police said a 30-year-old man, from Borehamwood, was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of murder. He remained in police custody today.

Today, the force said a 31-year-old woman, also from Borehamwood, was arrested yesterday evening on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and being concerned in Mr Humphrey's murder.

Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Steve Collin, of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: "We are appealing to anyone who was in the area around this time.

"If you saw anything suspicious please get in contact as soon as possible."

Yesterday neighbour Eileen Kane, 58, said she was "shocked and devastated" by Mr Humphrey's death.

She said: "He seemed like a really nice person. He'd always say good morning or good afternoon.

"It's a terrible thing to happen to a man of that age."
