gentle lemur

Farmer Gwynfor Williams (right), with the wild animal he shot when he thought it was worrying his sheep in a field near Llanuwchllyn, Gwynedd, on Wednesday night. It was identified yesterday as a rare, gentle, fruit- eating lemur from Madagascar which had escaped from its owner in Bala, North Wales.

Michael Lockyear, of Howlett's Zoo, Kent, said it was probably curious about the sheep, which it may not have seen before.
