Dogs take 'selfies' at Battersea Cats And Dogs Home in bid to attract new owners

Dogs at Battersea Cats and Dogs Home have been taking ‘selfies’ in a bid to attract new owners with their pouty profiles.

‘Selfies’ are a kind of strutting self-portrait, usually snapped with a smartphone and uploaded onto social media. This new kind of pose has now become so popular that the word was added to the Oxford English Dictionary online last week.

These down and out dogs, keen not to miss out, have been taking their own pictures with an iPhone.

Rob Young, Head of Dog Rehoming at Battersea says: “Sharing selfies online is all the rage and our dogs are tapping into this trend. Their photos are very cute and it’s a great way to promote our dogs and help them find a second chance.”

Dogs aren’t by any means the first to get involved with new social media trends. In June, Snapcat was launched, an app that lets cats take photos, by chasing an icon on an ipad or iphone's screen. Using the slogan "photos of cats, by cats," it enabled even more pictures of cats to be uploaded onto the internet, just from a slightly different perspective.
