Drugs 'informant' to testify

A BRITISH Embassy worker who allegedly told Thai Customs that two Britons were carrying heroin is to give evidence at their trial.

The Thai woman, who works for the embassy's drugs liaison officer, was subpoenaed by the prosecution in the case of Sandra Gregory and Robert Locke, who are accused of trying to smuggle more than 3oz of heroin out of the country.

The court has heard that the official tipped off Customs that Mr Locke was planning a drugs run, and that Ms Gregory was not suspected until she arrived at the airport with him. Both were searched and the drugs were found in a condom concealed inside her body.

Ms Gregory, 28, a teacher from Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, has pleaded guilty to possessing the drug, but denies trafficking. Mr Locke, also 28, from Cambridge, denies both charges, which carry the death sentence. However, for foreigners, it is usually commuted to life imprisonment.
