10-year-old too tall for restaurant's junior price
A 10-year-old boy was measured by restaurant workers who deemed him nine centimetres too tall for a child's discounted meal.
Ben Gardner and his family went to the Angel Chef Chinese buffet restaurant in Gloucester for an evening out last week.
They hoped to take advantage of the half-price children's meal but were bemused when staff measured him when he went up to the buffet to fill his plate on Friday.
Dad Gareth, from Saintbridge, Gloucester, had to pay the full price of £10 when they told him Ben was 9cm over the 140cm tall limit.
Mr Gardner's partner Mandy Street's nine-year-old son Lewis was within the height limit.
The restaurant said there is a sign at the front of the restaurant informing customers of the children's price height rule.
"I have been with Ben twice before and paid the children's price, and he hasn't grown that much in the past few months," Mr Gardner told the Gloucester Citizen.
"They haven't measured him before. How can they charge for an adult? He is only 10. It seems ludicrous they are going by height."
A spokeswoman from the national chain of Angel Chef, said: "Since last year we started charging the adult price for children over 140cm.
"We leave it to the discretion of the manager."
