An 83-year-old woman was found dead after being trapped under a quad bike.
The woman was found on private farmland in Kenton, near Exetor, on Friday morning, and police believe she had been trapped under the all-terrain vehicle for hours, possibly since the previous day.
Devon and Cornwall Police said it is likely she suffered some form of medical incident while driving the quad bike, causing it to flip over, though it is not known whether the woman died before or after the accident occurred.
Police were alerted to the situation at around 8:20am on Friday.
A police spokesperson said: “Police received reports of a sudden death involving an 83-year-old woman trapped under a quad bike on a private gravel track.
“Paramedics and an air ambulance attended the scene but the female was pronounced dead.”
Officers have ruled out any foul play in the death of the woman, named locally as June Matthews, and who is understood to have lived alone on the property.
Devon and Cornwall Police said a report is being prepared for a coroner.
