A pregnant woman has thanked burglars who emptied out her home for making her realise the importance of her family and not material wealth in a social media post.

Alexandra Patricia Mahouri, 27, wrote a Facebook post two days after her new home was burgled which has been shared by hundreds of well-wishers.

Mrs Mahjouri and her husband Andre, 31, came home on December 7 to find their home in Derbyshire had been broken into and ransacked.

She said the burglars had taken thousands of pounds worth of belongings, including TVs, laptops, jewelry, passports, car keys, as well as Christmas presents, “Terry’s chocolate oranges” and her young son’s money box.

They also made away with jewellery passed on to Mrs Mahjouri from her late father, which she “can never even come close to [replacing]”.

However, Mrs Mahjouri has made peace with the situation, and thanks the perpetrators in her post for “making me realise all the materialistic items you took aren’t worth my tears as we as a family are safe and unharmed and that’s the most important thing”.

She wrote: “Thank you for making me realise how much of an amazing support network we have around us of people who have rang, message us, and come round to help and to comfort us.

“Thank you for making me see the real importance of Xmas [sic], spending time with loved ones and the whole imagination Christmas brings to children.”

Mrs Mahjouri, who is four months pregnant with her second child, only has one request to make of the burglars.

“Some of the jewellery you took belonged to my dad who passed away 6 years ago and some were final presents he brought for me,” she said.

“My dad was a really generous person and I’d like to think I am too, so although you have completely broken my heart and taken every last thing I had left of my dad (apart from his chef whites) I hope whatever you manage to sell it all for brings you and your family some sense of happiness.

“However one particular item, a silver Tiffany necklace has my name on so is probably no good to you, this was the last present my dad ever bought for me.

“If you could find anything at all in your heart and wanted to post it back to me you know where I live and I really would greatly appreciate it.”
