Four people are being treated in hospital after a Ferrari ploughed into pedestrians along a busy London A-road.

Police, including a horse unit, ambulances and the air ambulance, was dispatched to Battersea Park Road in south west London shortly before 10.30am.

The red sports car, believed to have been travelling southbound, reportedly mounted the pavement on the bridge over the railway just outside Flanagans pub and the charity headquarters of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

There is also a report on Facebook claiming people fell from the bridge.

"It mounted the pavement, it has gone over the bridge and it has gone into a parked car," said Flanagans bar steward Zoe Saxby.

The road is closed between the Queenstown Road junction and the scene of the crash.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Police in Wandsworth are dealing with a road traffic collision.

Police were called at 10.29am on Monday, 12 December, to Battersea Park Road, SW8, to reports of a collision between a car and a number of pedestrians.

"London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance are in attendance. Four people were reported to have been injured.

"Conditions of the injured awaits. Road closures are in place while emergency services deal. The driver stopped at the scene. Enquires continue."

The injured were previously estimated to be six people by police, although there remains to be slight confusion over the number.

Luke Watling, general manager at The Mason's Arms pub, which lies around 150 metres further south, said: "There are a lot of police cars outside Battersea Dogs & Cats Home so I imagine it's very serious.

"The road is closed from the Queenstown Road junction to the dogs home so I can imagine it's caused a lot of confusion."
