British airlines cancelled dozens of flights to Florida as Hurricane Frances forced airports in the state to close yesterday. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Thomas Cook Airlines were among the UK carriers who axed flights.
Tour operators were in contact with an estimated 6,000 Britons who had been due to fly home from Florida. Those scheduled to fly out on package holidays were being advised to contact their tour operator, travel agent or airline.
Passengers who booked directly with Virgin Atlantic can call 08705 747747 to discuss their options.
Thomas Cook Airlines said its passengers could get a full refund or a later flight. The airline added that passengers in Orlando who will be unable to return on these flights would be able to stay on in their hotels. Thoseworried about their travel arrangements can call Thomas Cook on 0870 010 1806.
