'Cosmetic surgeon to the stars' found dead at home

By Jonathan Brown

One of Britain's leading cosmetic surgeons, Martin Kelly, known as the "surgeon to the stars", has been found dead after a suspected heart attack at the age of 42.

Mr Kelly, who was married to the Hollywood actress Natascha McElhone, was discovered by a friend on the doorstep of the family home in Fulham, west London, on Tuesday night. He was dead on arrival at the nearby Chelsea and Westminster Hospital where he was a consultant.

Ms McElhone, 36, who has starred in films including The Other Boleyn Girl and The Truman Show and the television series Californication, was returning home from filming in Los Angeles. The couple had been married 10 years and Ms McElhone is pregnant with their third child. .

Mr Kelly's father-in-law, the media commentator Roy Greenslade, said the family was in shock. "As well as being a brilliant doctor, he painted and wrote music, as well as being a great sportsman," he said. "He was terrific; a true renaissance man."

Mr Kelly was educated in Paris and Winchester and studied medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London, graduating in 1989. He then trained in plastic surgery and became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993. He published more than 30 papers on plastic surgery and presented his work across the globe, including in the US, France, Mexico and China.

Mr Kelly was also a co-founder of the children's charity, Facing The World, set up by the UK's leading craniofacial surgeons to treat young people in the developing world with severe facial disfigurement.
