'Drink your sprouts!': Marks and Spencer to release Brussels Sprout smoothie as part of Christmas food range

Other M&S creations include Christmas dinner in a pie, Christmas Cake liquer and an edible cheeseboard made of crackers

Love them or hate them Brussels Sprouts are a well-established staple of any Christmas dinner; however, this Christmas, Brussels Sprout – smoothies - could well be too.

Supermarket chain Marks and Spencer is set to bring to their food shelves a liquefied version of the much maligned vegetable this Christmas and combine it with apple and pear to create a sweet festive smoothie to combat the Christmas binge.

The juice will join a sprout based coleslaw, an edible cheeseboard made from crackers and Christmas Cake liqueur all created as part of Marks and Spencer’ new Christmas creations.

Other Marks  & Spencer's creations set to hit the food aisles this winter will be the Christmas Dinner in a Pie, complete with turkey, stuffing and pigs in blankets, as well as a inventively named bite size version the Christmas Dinner on a stick.

The various Christmas creations from M&S have been the work of a 40-strong team of product developers who have been travelling to places like New York and Paris since last September to find the latest trends and tastes in Christmas dining.

Sandra Ziles, the chain’s head of product development, said: ‘At Christmas we all want to wow our family and friends with delicious food and surprise them with interesting new discoveries.

‘We’ve spent nearly 18 months working on this year’s range and we’ve got something for everyone, from the most delicious turkey to Christmas cake liqueur and even the first edible cheese board.’

She added: ‘What could be a better taste of Christmas than Christmas cake liqueur? And for those willing to be a bit more adventurous you can’t beat our Brussels sprout juice – we hope it will convert a few non-sprout eaters to the green side.’

The special Christmas range follows other inventive successes from the Marks and Spencer’s food team such as the Fish and Chips in a pie, which has been a great success since being launched in April this year.
