HOSTAGE Mark Slater pleaded last night for the Government to negotiate with the Khmer Rouge for his release from Cambodia. His appeal was made on a two-way radio communication monitored by Cambodians and non-government organisations.

Mr Slater, 28, of Corby, Northants, is being held for ransom with an Australian and a Frenchman. The Foreign Office said Britain's policy was not to pay ransoms.
