Investigation continues into waterfall deaths

Investigations will take place today into the death of a three-year-old girl and a man who fell 50 feet from a waterfall into a river.

Witnesses told police the pair, thought to be a 33-year-old father and his daughter, had entered the waterfall, in Llanbedr, near Harlech, North Wales, and then fell into a pool of water below.

Following a frantic two hour river search their bodies were found at around 6pm last night.

Police said the victims had been staying at a campsite nearby.

Police and Fire and Rescue Service will begin a full investigation into the incident later today, a spokeswoman added.

At this stage it is understood to have been a tragic accident although the authorities have refused to speculate.

Alan Edwards, fire service community safety manager for North Wales Fire and Rescue service, said: "This tragic incident highlights the dangers of swimming in unknown waters and venturing in the locality of unknown waters."
