A community is up in arms that its annual cheese-rolling day risks being turned into a "cheap commercial event".

Last year's rolling of an 8lb round of cheese at Coopers Hill near Gloucester was cancelled because of crowd safety fears. The organising committee now says it needs to become a festival with bands and overnight camping.

But Cranham Parish Council chairman said yesterday: "If it's ticketed it will just become a mini-Glastonbury."
