London Underground services over Christmas and the New Year could be hit by a strike over signal workers' jobs, a union warned today.

Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union who work on the Central Line signalling are being balloted for strikes, which could start just before Christmas.

The union has accused London Underground of not following relocation procedures over plans to move 61 workers.

A London Underground spokesman said the threat of action was "unnecessary" because talks were still continuing.

"All the signal staff have been told they will retain their jobs, but not necessarily on the Central Line because there are not enough vacancies at the moment."
