Students have been evacuated from a building at Newcastle University where potentially suspicious items were found, according to Northumbria police.
An 18-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the findings, and was helping with enquiries, according to a police statement.
Officers were searching the INTO Building at the institution on Tuesday evening, when the investigation was in its early stages.
The police added that the students were removed from the premises as a precaution, and to allow investigators to recover and examine the items.
A bomb disposal robot had been used at the scene, according to the Mirror.
There is currently no cause for concern for students and the wider community, the statement continued.
