The Environment Agency has issued a flood alerts for the South West, the Midlands, South East, and Wales.

However, the Environment Agency insisted there is a "low overall flood risk," and that while some rivers may respond to recent rainfall, teh main risk is from surface water flooding.

The rain is expected to move across the country while another area of rain will come in from the south west, circulating at a low pressure, causing rain to fall across most parts of the country from midnight on Thursday to midday on Friday.

A yellow weather warning remains in the South West for Friday, where 10ml to 20ml of rain is expected, with up to 40ml of rain expected over the south facing hills and the south west of Wales.

Heavy rainfall is expected in eastern Scotland on Friday, with 20ml to 40ml expected on lower levels, and up to 60ml expected to fall on higher ground.

Dan Williams, a spokesperson at the Met Office, said: “This weekend looks slightly more settled for the country but there is still going to be rain in the South West and showers  across southern parts of England, and it will still be fairly breezy on Saturday.

“It will be an unsettled weekend with showers in the South West and rain moving into the eastern parts of Scotland on Sunday, with the possibility of rain into the first part of next week.”
