A van driver who swerved to avoid footballer Clark Carlisle's suicide attempt and consoled the lorry driver who hit him, has died aged 24.

Chris Kilbride was driving on the A64 near York when the former Burnley footballer stepped in front of an oncoming lorry in 2014.

His father, also Chris, confirmed the death of his son on Facebook, and said: "It is with deep regret and a broken heart that I have to inform my friends that my son Chris Kilbride passed away yesterday.

"Thank you to all the people that have already passed on their thoughts. Rest in peace son, I’m already missing you like crazy... You will never leave my thoughts."
