Amateur footage has captured the moment an aeroplane engine exploded as it prepared to take off from Manchester Airport.

The Thomas Cook Airlines flight TCX314 was carrying around 300 passengers and was headed for the Dominican Republic when the incident occurred.

The Airbus 300 was grounded on the runway while firefighters and airport emergency services attended the scene. The plane was eventually taken back to the terminal where the 325 passengers on board safely disembarked.

In the video the engine can be seen exploding and smoke billowing out as the plane veers slightly from side to side.

A spokesman for Thomas Cook Airlines confirmed that an investigation was underway and said that at no time were passengers or crew at risk during the incident which happened on Monday.
